Works great, if you trust it
I will say it took a little getting used to. This can opener slices into the **side** of the lid at the top of the can, and it works as advertised, but I had to learn to trust it and to follow the simple instructions... including not holding or supporting the can once the opener grips the can and begins to rotate it. The benefits: No sharp or jagged bits. The lid that comes off is a disc that doesn't want to cut you. The remainder of the can also has no super sharp edge anywhere. Clever. The downside: If the can holds firm sticky stuff (I'm looking at you, corned beef hash) so there is some suction between lid and contents, my fingernail might not be strong enough to easily pry the cut lid from the can. I might need to use a butter knife or table knife to pop up the edge of the open lid so I can separate it from the rest of the can. It's fairly quiet. It does its job well. I recommend it.

Surprisingly Impressive Can Opener
What can I say, I’m definitely impressed! I honestly wasn’t expecting much based on past experiences with electric can openers, but this Hamilton Beach model has completely changed that.I’ve been using it for a few months now and haven’t had a single issue. No struggling, no need to reset the can mid-cycle - just place the can, press the lever, and within seconds it's open. I also really appreciate that it cuts from the side, which means the lid doesn’t fall into the food anymore - a big plus.Granted, I’ve only opened around 10–15 cans with it so far, so I can’t speak to long-term durability or how it holds up with daily use. I don’t use canned goods often, so I’m expecting this to last me a good long while. If you're like me and only need a can opener occasionally, I’d absolutely recommend this one. It's simple, clean, and gets the job done without any hassle. Very happy with the purchase!

Easier Safer Can Opener
Had to replace my over 10 year old can opener. This type is my favorite...no sharp edges to worry about...at least 98% of the time. My previous was also a Hamilton Beach and I saw no reason to try a different brand. Was upset the previous started to "act up" but it was getting some age on it and it had been used extensively.

It works well
The item is packed well. I set it up on counter and decided to open a can of tuna; just to see if it worked well. I have always used a hand one; and was surprised that there was no blade; or any sharp parts.I put the can on, pushed the handle down, and it spun the can smoothly and completely around. At first, I thought there was something wrong, as the lid dis not come off. I disconnected it and discovered the the lid had been completed severed at the side seam. Thus, there are no sharp edges on the can. Worked perfectly.

Works Fine * Mostly Plastic * Pricy
I've never paid so much for a can opener. I read reviews carefully and research all websites and options on everything I buy on or offline. It's mostly made of plastic, even the parts that appear to be metal. The day of sturdy appliances at a reasonable price are long over. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to work it. It doesn't have a viewable blade like all others I've had in the past. It cuts reasonably clean. Prevents cuts from sharp metal. No rippling of kids. I'm in the habit of having my hand underneath the cans while opening them, then I removed the tops from the cans. Perfect size for my needs. Doesn't slide off the counter while in use. The fact that it's mostly plastic and won't hold up as long as a traditional can opener, as well as the high cost, was the reason for my 4 star review. I imagine that top bit you press on will be the first thing to go. My last Hamilton Beach can opener held up fairly well. It started to smell strange, like burning out strange, but still worked. I was anticipating the motor going out soon, so I replaced it with this one. It matches my kitchen. Basic black and silver goes with everything.

Good can opener
This can opener works really well. I like that its one that opens on the sides so you can easily pull the whole lid up without worrying about cutting yourself. It's real simple to use and it can hold a good amount of weight as well!

Very good product
We had the same can opener for 20 years. It finally broke and we tried a few different ones, but they either didn't do a good job or they broke quickly. Then we had a hand-held can opener which I don't like. I read the reviews for this can opener and I'm very pleased. It works exactly as it should.

Happy in Oklahoma
Glad I found this. It is replacing an identical one that I have been using for at least 15 years or more that was finally wearing out. Hopefully this one will last as long as the last one. Works great.
