Doesn't make a huge amount of difference
I purchased this antenna and connected it to my uniden Bearcat handheld scanner. I have a window near where I use the scanner so I was able to install the antenna on the roof just above the window. The cable is just long enough to reach where I use the scanner so that's good. One thing I will add about this antenna is that to me, the pictures are a little deceiving in that the wire on the antenna is much smaller in diameter / gauge than what it looks like in the pictures. All in all, it does seem to make a slight bit of improvement in what I'm able to receive. However most of what I can hear has so much static, it's almost impossible to understand what's being said. I will acknowledge I live way out in the country... far away from most transmitters so that is certainly part of the issue. If you live near whatever transmitter you're trying to pick up, my feeling is that the antenna will help give you a better signal quality but not a lot better.

Must Have
If you own the Uniden Scanner,, ditch the original antenna and get this improves the reception greatly

A antenna
Thought it was to be bigger than it was but if you live on a second floor or higher it works fine

Cheap but mighty
I was skeptical of these antennas. Having used scanners for the last 40+ years I have used a number of antennas. Strangely with antennas, essentially being just a piece of metal (I know it's a little more complicated than that) I have found that you do get what you pay for. But I figured hey for $16 for 2 of them, I figured no big investment. But boy, have I been surprised?I have been picking up systems thirty plus miles away and getting them fairly clear. And for some applications like aircraft band have been beating my more expensive antennas. Aircraft bands are a secondary listening for me. It is not obviously the best for all applications but if you're just doing general scanning, Local police, fire, (800 MHz) aircraft and railroad It is a pretty good not great antenna.
