MountfieldSP53 Elite Self-Propelled Petrol Lawnmower (Honda Engine)

Fantastic mower. Delighted with it, cuts beautifully, strong Honda engine, starts first time every time. Leaves a beautiful finish, couldn’t be happier.

Prior to this I had a Mountfield for 11 years which NEVER broke. I purchased this one as my Mountfield was finally getting rickety. I did plenty research and chose this lawnmower. On its 2nd use the bolt holding the blade on, snapped completely in two leaving half the bolt stuck inside. The grass was not long at all and it is a flat garden. After a convoluted process of removing the half bolt trapped inside, I used it again and this happened on the 2nd use again! It's clearly a design fault as the bolt snapped in the exact same place. I can't believe the quality is so poor given I paid the same as I did for my old Mountfield which never caused a single issue. DO NOT BUY THIS MOWER!!! Absolutely horrendous.

This is quite a heavy item to get out of the box, not sure |I could get it in the car boot without help - In fact I'm certain I couldn't. I noticed that there was some slight contact between one of the front wheels and the main body when I had assembled it but wasn't sure whether or not I'd done that while unpacking which was areal battle, I'll get that sorted when it's serviced. Not entirely clear at first whether there was oil in the engine or not, the instructions say it needs oil other purchasers have said there was oil in the engine, so bought some anyway and perhaps slightly overfilled.Works pretty good, economical with fuel. I have a large garden and would have liked one more higher setting for the orchard grass but generally managed it ok.

I found the assembly easy enough although the instructions aren't particularly clear.Starting is very reliable so far.Very quiet when runningI have c1 acre of lawn - this machine cuts it effortlesslyCutting height variations are very flexibleCollection bag is a little small so frequent stops are required.The only real gripe I have is that you have stop the machine completely to empty the collection bag.

Early days yet but having had a similar machine for 20 years this one stands up well. Use on sloping lawns and loads of power but is quite heavy to manoeuvre around trees. Time will tell but so far very satisfied.

The mower itself is good albeit is heavy to move aroundThe grass collection box is very cheaply constructed and a small weight created by collected grass makes it separate and become unusable.Have had previous similar mowers from same manufacturer and the grass collection box frame was metal and far more sturdy.

Its a great machine, for the price.
