Quality product - well engineered
This was my first arcade stick in nearly 20 years - well, 'Fighting Stick if you prefer - and my first impressions were very good. It feels solid and well built, an impression increased when you open the controller up using the hinge system, with the mechanism being strong, easily supporting the controller when it is open. The slightly thinner looking plastic on the sides is not part of the main unit itself, but carefully placed handles for lifting the controller when it is on your lap. It also had a sculped base which also acts as a handle. My only complaint with the design is the storage of the power cable - which is wound round a retaining section which has the wires from some of the buttons underneath it. You have to be very careful, because the loose wires feel delicate and somewhat brittle. I've actually just left the power cable out permanently because of this. If you're careful though it can be wound back on.The Hayabusa joystick is very high quality - and whilst somewhat louder than a Sanwa joystick feels tighter and more precise somehow. This is a real selling pont for this stick in my opinion and one I am surprised Hori do not advertise on the box.Which leads to my only real complaint with the product. It says on the box that 'the joystick can be set to the D-Pad or left analog stick', it then says in the downloadable manual that you can do this using the companion app - however when you install the app no such facility exists. I messaged Hori UK about this, their reply, which took 2 weeks to arrive didn't answer my question. So it must be assumed that this facility doesn't exist, which makes it feel strange they advertised it on the box rather than bigging up the quality of the components like Razer do with the Atrox. This complaint, and the slow response from Hori customer service isn't enough for me to drop a star off the product score though. I've been using it for over a month now and this is a 5 star quality arcade stick and easily as good as the Razer Atrox.

Very easy to customise the art and part.
I had a doa5 Hori stick which was good but was a bit uncomfortable, this model has better feeling button presses, they are sensitive, the stick clicks do make noise but I use it to know my movement confirmed. But the thing it made me get is the ease of customising the art panel that has a plastic cover case from the images provided we got separate colour screws, silver ones are to remove the art panel cover and Horis website provides with the template to make your own cover.

Luxury item for essential gaming
I bought this stick as an upgrade from a 9-year-old stick I've modded several times over the years. It's bigger, chunkier and fits my lap better. I've already made one change to the joystick (fitted a stronger spring for faster recoil to the neutral position) and that was easy thanks to the flip-open case. 4 stars because I did have to change something out, but if you're in the market for a stick, you won't go far wrong with Hori.

Mostly hassle-free, some minor caveats
The good first- this is a fairly typical Hori arcade stick, with good-quality stick and buttons. A true connoisseur might have different tastes, but if that's you you probably don't need this review in the first place. Both can be swapped out with minimal hassle due to this stick's USP: the fact that you can simply open a catch to get at the gubbins. And believe me, Hori want you to know this because you have to do it to get the USB cable out of the thing to plug it in.Connection to a PC is very simple, with a qualifier that I'll get to. It identifies perfectly on Windows 10 without any additional messing about straight out of the box, a big advantage on Steam where non-Xbox sticks like my PS4 RAP-4 can have configuration issues. The qualifier here is that I found it didn't work properly when connected via a USB extension cable- it identified as a controller, but didn't actually work. Connecting directly to the PC, or by a USB 3.0 rated USB hub, fixed the issue. This was probably due to the USB extension cable being very long and/or low quality, but if you have connection problems try direct connection first. The main negative point is in the faceplate customisation, which is a little disappointing. The stick requires a significant amount of disassembly, including using a screwdriver, to remove the faceplate cover, and the area for the artwork is larger than A4, which means that if you want to make your own insert you're going to need a fairly high-spec printer or to go to a print shop. It's actually harder to swap the art than it is to swap out a button, which is obvious when you think about it but still a bit counter-intuitive.Still, overall if you don't mind paying a premium for a stick and want one that feels solid, has plenty of real-estate for your hands, and can be customised, this thing is a very decent choice.

Works great on older shooters but not modern ones such as Rtype Final 2
Id love to find a work around as this stuck is amazing when it works but it won't even attempt to work on R type final 2 which is what I got it for or Sine Mora EX . Tried Both games and they want to use controller and won't enertain the Arcade stick at all. Seems a great stick but for me very limited use as doesn't like those modern shooters which for me is puzzling as they are games that are recent.
