A must have for anyone in orthopedics

this book is amazing. I bought it as a physician assistant student about to begin my orthopedic rotation and have continued to use it working as a surgical Ortho PA. Each chapter is dedicated to an anatomical region (very well divided), covering that region's anatomy and most common pertinent conditions, highlighting key points of the history and physical, diagnostic imaging, treatment, and surgical options for each. My only complaint is that it sort of haphazardly goes over provocative tests, some only using pictures instead of explanations, and not even including some of the commonly used tests in every day orthopedics. But nonetheless, this book got me through my rotation and the beginning of my career as a surgical orthopedic PA. I used it every day before scrubbing hand, sports, and joints cases to refresh my memory about the anatomy and pathology. I would say it is less useful for surgical exposures and dangers (although each chapter touches a bit on both) but at least gets you started. I absolutely think any Ortho PA or med student needs this book, even a resident as a quick reference, and anyone in primary/urgent care who wants to understand basic orthopedics when they encounter it.

Great for medical school

Perfect for my orthopedic surgery rotation in medical school with my Netter-loving surgical attending.

Perfect first ortho book

This is the first book I've bought as a future an aspiring orthopaedic surgeon. I carried it in my white coat pocket during my orthopaedic rotation during my third year of medical school. I referred to it in down moments to refresh myself on anatomy. It also has brief descriptions of specialized orthopaedic exam techniques and what they are designed to find. It gives brief illustrations of common injuries and how they are detected. It covers basic fracture classification for many locations. Overall, it covered exactly what I most needed to know as a third year medical student rotating in orthopedics. Highly recommend!

Essential reading for 4th year medical students going into orthopedics

This book is the perfect level of detail for 4th year medical students completing subIs in ortho. Great review of anatomy and basic fracture classifications to build on. One of the very few written txts that I actually used as a medical student

Excellent Reference

Purchased as a personal reference, and as a visual aid in explaining things to patients who have questions about their problems. Just received the book early this morning, and began going through it. This book is excellent. I really like the fact that this is about orthopedics and only orthopedics. Previously I had used a set of the Netter flash cards for this purpose, but a colleague showed me this, and it was much better for our purposes. Unlike the flash cards, this is a handy "all in one" reference, and it is not cluttered up with information unrelated to my area of practice. Also, I can drop it in the pocket of my lab coat if I want to take it along. No cards to fumble through or misplace. If you are working in orthopedics, or planning to do so, I would recommend this book without reservation.

Small but mighty

Im a new grad PA working in ortho. This book is small but has all the pertinent information I need at my finger tips. Would recommend for new ortho people or students in an ortho rotation.

A classic

A classic. for those interested in anatomy brief reviews, this may be the best today. It must be read slowly and with great attention, because is is not wordy and everything written is important. Illustrations are amongst the best available, but they are mostly drawings, not photographs.

Useful reference!

I like this book. I found it useful on my ortho rotation. I would use it to brush up on anatomy before surgical cases. Another useful feature is that it gives you tables of different kinds of fractures and the indicated treatment for each. So for instance if you have a nondisplaced metacarpal fx vs comminuted, what intervention is needed for each? The book lays it out in a simple format. I'd say even if you aren't in ortho, having this around for ER or trauma might be useful.
