It balances — unlike the other two I bought

This was the third balance I bought. And it works! Very sensitive to small differences in weight — which is good. Nice tabs for “zeroing” the scale. Looks like resilient construction. I’m satisfied.

Great tool for math and science learning!

My 4 and 7 year old kids both love playing with this scale. We got a set of Learning Resources weights (https://www.amazon.com/Hexagram-Weights-Set-LER-4292/dp/B000URFT3G/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=learning+resources+weights&qid=1600224656&sr=8-1) to go with it. Mostly I have let them figure out what they can do with it so far.First, my daughter weighed some of her small toys (Scrubby Pets animals) and used the weights to compare them. Then, they realized that the containers could hold water, so they decided to compare weights for liquids. This was just in our first week of owning the toy. Since we are doing a lot of home learning activities right now, I can see us pulling this out more when my older kid learns about measurement or just for fun as we cycle through our different science tools.Using the weights has been a great way to reinforce addition for my daughter (since to make up the weight for one Scrubby Pet she might have to add 10+10+5+1g) and for my younger child to learn the concepts of more/less or heavier/lighter.If I had one complaint, it is that the buckets on either side of the scale slip off easily and have to be put back on a lot. The plastic on the buckets is not as sturdy as it could be.However, as with all Learning Resources items I've purchased, the design is well thought out and it doesn't have more bells and whistles than needed to convey the main function and concept.

Good educational toy

Another toy that my son had to have after playing with it at his cousin's house. I had thought about getting him a scale/balance toy but wasn't sure he'd play with it. This is the one I chose after reading all the reviews. He has really enjoyed it, too. The cups sit on the beam well and are easy to place and take off. The drawer is a little bonus as it can store little things to weigh/compare. And there are lids for the cups if you need them. I did not get anything to put in the cups (to balance) as I thought we'd have stuff around the house. And we do, but I wish now I'd gotten some counting bears or something specifically for this as sometimes his choices are less then ideal. It made of a light, hard plastic and probably would not stand up to a huge amount of abuse. But ours has been dropped on hard floors several times in the past year and is not damaged at all. So I would say it is durable if not abused.Edit to add: Two years later and this toy is still intact and has stood up to the wear-and-tear of a couple years play with an active child.

I really like the scale

I like that the scale tubs can easily be removed just by lifting up and can just as easily be put on (even young 2yo's can do it). This makes for easy cleaning (I put them on the top rack of the dishwasher when needed) so the kids can put liquid or solids in them. Sand and beans are a favorite. The scale has a little drawer but mine has never been used, the kids just don't really have an interest in it. One thing that I don't like is the lids for the scale tubs. They don't lock on, they just sit on top of the tubs. Any movement and the lid slides off, the kids don't like this either and at first would try and try again to put the lids on when they weighed stuff but then they'd lose interest pretty quickly and just set the lids aside. The lids don't ever get used at all now and for me it's just another useless "extra" piece.

Great concept for kids

I love the concept and I love the toy, I just don't love that it feels a little bit cheap, but that comes with this price I guess.I also have a recommendation, the lids that come with the measuring buckets, don't stay on at all, they should though. They don't look like they're made to stay on but they should have been, I think this is a designing error. Especially since it's for little kids and it shows liquids being measured on the front of the box. liquids in this without an air tight lid, really is not much fun. Even more so when you've put food coloring in the liquid. But all that aside, my kids really love this and since I'm a homeschooling mom it's been effective in teaching them weight comparisons. All in all it's a great tool nd toy for kids, just be careful not to spill! :)

Great Resource

I use it for my class of preschoolers. Can’t be too rough, but use with supervision

Good For Preschool Use

I bought this to introduce the idea of weight and balance to my preschooler. It doesn't take much to tip the scales of this balance as it's actually fairly sensitive. I've used it with the counting bears and just one bear will make it tip completely in one direction. The buckets are marked with 100, 200, 300, and 400 ml with 50 ml tick mark graduations. The lids snap on, but not very securely. The containers lift off the balance very easily as only gravity is keeping them on. It will need some adjusting of the calibration weights, located on the arms, once you get it out of the box and I've been able to get it fairly close to center. It's a great teaching tool for the beginner and until you start needing precise measurements in your kid's coursework, this is a good balance to begin with.

I got it from the Amazon Warehouse

It's functional, but it wasn't as described by the warehouse. It is missing the lids, which is why I chose this particular scale. It's not as sturdy as I would have liked, but it is light weight and a bit over a foot long. It does balance accurately and is easy to use. It will work for a home school group despite my lack of enthusiasm.
