Atx motherboard with usual Asus build quality. I did buy the H version of this a few months before, which is a cheaper more cut down version. This board has plenty of extra items, but I was more interested in the 90amp VRM. More than enough for my i7 13700 K. It also gives me the room to upgrade to a 14th generation i9 if I ever need the extra bit of performance. XMP memory runs stable and the bios is fine, unlike their AMD versions. This motherboard actually runs my CPU two degrees cooler than the H version, probably as that's an 80amp VRM. I like the quick release button for the GPU, great for extra long cards. Everything is plug and play, as you would expect these days. And the price I paid for this on Amazon at £450 was a steal. Free delivery too which arrived a day early. If you are after a high end mid range Z790, this one is an excellent choice.

I've been using Asus motherboard for years and have always found them to be easy to install and set up, feature-packed with great accessories and very stable. I have no doubt this will serve me well for the next few years for both gaming and productivity. Super-quick delivery from Amazon as well.

ASUS Website it indicates Z790-E supports 14th Gen CPUs. Note they are NOT fully supported; there's no RAM compatibility list (QVL) for them. Tried Corsair 6400; tried Kingston 6000. Nothing will run over 4000MT/s without bluescreening and failing memtest86. Latest BIOS. Replaced CPU. Replaced board. Replaced RAM. ASUS Customer Support can't tell me any memory that works with 14th Gen CPUs. Their answer is downclock all 14th Gen CPUs to 4000MT/s and switch off XMP until they release a BIOS fix. Sometime.The Gen 5 NVMe and PCIe x16 Gen5 advertisement is a bit of a lie. You can have either a x16 graphics card, OR you can have an x8 NVMe card and an x8 graphics card. Yeah, they didn't mention that did they? My GPU reports in as 55th percentile in Passmark. I put my SSD in a different slot and get 88th. £570 SSD which I can only use at half speed if I want to play games. Can I move my GPU to the non-GPU PCIe slot? Does forcing Gen4 PCIe in the BIOS stop this behaviour? I honestly don't know. Yet to investigate; just trying to get a board that actually works atm. Basically don't buy a Gen 5 SSD for this board. Well not if you want to, you know, use it at Gen5 speed.On top of all this, the ASUS QA seems to have really gone downhill. My first board had no working NIC. The second board had a broken M2_1 port. Let's try #3...In 30 years of PC building I've never had a board with so many "quirks". I might even replace it with something else, but boards that "support" Gen 5 SSDs are rare. And man, MSI are just not anywhere near as solid. Asrock is always a bit weird and whacky. But ASUS, it's not really good enough for the eye-watering pricetag.*** UPDATE ***In the end I got sick with just being told to replace boards again and again and Asus tech support - for something which is a premium priced product - being totally snark af after another 2 days of waiting for a reply.Took a punt with MSI. MPG Carbon. OK, I felt dirty. 20 years of Asus loyalty down the drain - and... wow holy sh*t what a difference. Started up, went through first-time mem training, rebooted after ~20 seconds with 4TB gen 5 SSD set up, memory overlocked at 7800MT/s with XMS profile, K CPU overclocked at 6.2GHz. About a second to boot up. Benchmarks literally 1000s of points better in PassMark than this Asus board. Stable AF. Wow. Asus. This is how you do things. Goodbye.

The board looks good, it feels quality. But it is almost 30% more expensive than better boards from MSI which have the same cooling features and connectivity, but come with the newer WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 such as the Z790 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI.Annoyingly, mine also had faulty DIMM slots so I had the return it.

From the get go, after purchasing this and other components I’ve had many errors and issues with my PC. I’ve spent months and months, purchasing even more new parts, reinstalling parts and readjusting software to fix the issue which has culminated in me finally understanding the core problem. The motherboard!It’s the only part that remains since the issues began and is consistently unable to detect my GPU. Some days I have to restart my PC 40-50 times to get it to work.I am now way beyond the Amazon refund policy and ASUS do not appear to have any interest in motherboard support so I’m stuck with a broken product that cost quite a bit of money.
