I needed new shaving soap and looked at Proraso. I saw that customers also used pre shaving cream, something I had never done before. I was initially drawn to the beautiful packaging as I love Italian design. I also like brands that have been around for a while; Proraso, as I have learned is well established and much loved by barbers around the world with a long history.The overwhelming positive reviews also made me take a punt and click purchase. So is it any good?Yes! The first time I opened the pot I was won over. The smell is divine; clean but not medicinal, fresh and distinctive.I use this as a pre shave cream. I was getting razor burn before and needed something that would soften the bristles. This does that beautifully. It also wakes your face up - not in a burning way, just a lovely invigorating sensation. I apply it ten minutes before I shave and that is enough.Razor burn has become a thing of the past and my face feels alive and refreshed.You don't need to apply much, I think even this 100ml pot will last a couple of months even with a daily shave.If you usually just lather up, I would recommend this as a good way to prepare your face for shaving. A real treat!

Superb!!! Put this on your skin as a base layer then apply the shaving cream. Excellent. Menthol and fresh. Top shaving product.

Having been DE shaving for a few months now, I've been looking around for a post-shave moisturiser. Something that wouldn't leave a greasy residue, but that would leave my skin feeling softer after shaving and help to alleviate any razor burn.I hadn't used Proraso products before but the number of highly positive reviews had always caught my eye and although this product is sold as a pre- and post-shave cream, I bought it solely as a post-shave product as I personally don't see the need for anything pre-shave, other than plenty of hot water and a good shaving soap or cream.After shaving, I always use an alum block - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00DPMMX96/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - leave on for 10 minutes, then rinse off and apply the Proraso Pre- and Post-Shave Cream.The first thing that strikes you is the very strong menthol (Eucalyptus) smell. It's certainly not unpleasant, but it is very strong. However, as the cream dries into the skin, so the smell recedes until you are left with a very faint menthol fragrance, which is fresh and leaves the skin feeling very clean.The cream is not at all greasy, but if you apply it in the morning after shaving you will still be aware of it in the evening. It forms a 'barrier' which you can feel when you run your hand over your face. It's not visible, but leaves the skin feeling soft and very smooth.I'm a fairly careful DE shaver and tend to take my time at the sink, but even so, I still suffer razor burn at times - even using the alum block. However, I can honestly say that since starting with the Proraso Shave Cream, I have not experienced razor burn of any kind. That cannot be coincidence - the cream clearly does a great job of moisturising, but also cooling, the skin.The other thing to say, is that you only need a very small amount after a shave, so while the 100ml pot may look a little expensive, rest assured this will last you ages.I wanted a post-shave cream that would moisturise and cool the skin, eliminate razor burn, not leave a greasy residue, smell fresh and protect my skin over the course of the day. In Proraso Pre- and Post-Shave Cream, I've found exactly that - and I absolutely wouldn't be without it.

Love the menthol refreshment on the face,and once massaged into face and applied your foam it works a treat.

Having recently returned to double edge razor shaving I was looking for shaving products to compliment the joy of DE shaving. I’ve tried numerous products over the years including from London based barbers but I have to say since I’ve been using the Proraso range I’m hooked. I’m currently using Proraso pre shave cream, followed by shaving soap and completed by aftershave balm. All the products effuse quality and style (as perhaps Italians do so well). A smooth shave with no nicks or cuts (as DE razors have a tendency to do), the razor glides smoothly over the skin and the balm provides instant cooling and hydration. The pre shave cream has a strong(ish) menthol smell which does make the eyes water a little but combined with the shaving soap brushed on with a quality badger hair brush the skin is left very well prepared for a close shave.The joys of DE razor shaving combined with the Proraso range makes the whole experience enjoyable and for anyone looking for quality shaving products that don’t break the bank and leave you feeling clean and fresh post shave then don’t look any further than the Proraso range- definitely recommended.This is an honest review and I have purchased all the products myself.

I'm not sure how much difference it makes to the actual shave, but the extra moisturisation is useful and it delivers a pleasing blast of menthol when you apply it! For what it costs, why not? I'll just mention though that it arrived with a broken lid despite being well wrapped. All the Proraso stuff I've bought off Amazon lately has arrived looking like it's been kicked from one end of the depot to the other, but this was actually broken.

Very nice product, lovelly old fashioned smell

I had never used any pre shave cream before and decided to try this as I had purchased a new razor. It’s absolutely amazing- makes such a difference when shaving. It’s very soothing and really reduces any irritation. I initially thought the jar would be small but you really don’t need to use much so it has lasted a lot longer. The menthol and eucalyptus is very refreshing too.
