My thoughts as a Marine and martial arts instructor…
Simple and straight to the point is exactly how self defense should be. In the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program, you aren’t going to learn anything fancy or ground breaking. If you have a black belt in any martial art, you’ve probably done or seen most of the techniques in this book, aside from the bayonet material. Even comparing this to Krav Maga, I’d say MCMAP is a simplified version of it, and that is NOT a bad thing. Just depends on what you’re looking for.In this book, you’ll see basic defenses and counters to things like punches, kicks, grappling, bear hugs and various chokes. You’ll see your basic punches and elbows, kicks and takedowns, as well as some ground techniques. And, if it’s what you’re looking for, some knife/firearm/bayonet material. As a Marine and a martial arts instructor, who’s been training in various martial arts for my entire life, the number one piece of advice I’ve always been given regarding combat and training: go back to basics. That’s MCMAP. If you were to take the techniques in this book, train hard and train often, you’ll have everything you need to defend yourself - and nothing more. In my opinion, that’s perfect.Keep it simple, keep it straight to the point.

It's not bad, get if if you are really interested.
It doesn't seem so bad, I haven't finished reading it though. Something I have noticed is that in the area addressing roundhouse kicks it says to grab the kicking leg. Good against a TKD practitioner trained only for sport, but hardcore martial artists know that roundhouse kicks are not best used to kicking the body in real combat; they aim for the knee cap or legs. You can counter a lower roundhouse, but that requires a different response what was shown in the book.

When They Say 'Full-Size' They Mean It
So I've had the MCMAP manual on PDF for ages but I really wanted something I could keep on a shelf and review. While this is, in fact, a nicely laid out hard-copy of the digital version, it's printed on good thick paper that is the same size, if not larger, than an A4 sheet. The margins are quite large and suitable for making notes, and while it is a softcover and has some degree of floppiness, the binding appears to be of high enough quality that it won't split or crease without significant stress.
