Highly rated
It's extremely fussy about how it penetrates your ear canal. When you get both ears right, it's remarkable.I went from regular earphones to Etymotic ER4XRs and music was a revelation. A couple of years later I went to the Evos and it's another revelation. The ER4s revealed detail in abundance and the Evos have revealed even more.I mostly listen to 70s to 90s music. The guys that mixed the sound for that era must have had amazing ears and equipment to do the job that they did; there's so much in the sounds that they created that I'm only now hearing.

Fantastic sound
After owning Etymotics ER2XR’s and loving them for about a couple of years, I finally decided to upgrade to the EVO’s. Cutting to the important point, these are way better. The detail and clarity in the sound is far superior, the standard sayings “it’s like lifting a veil/curtain etc. from in front of the speakers” comes to mind. The ER2XR’s have a very warm sound and this makes most music sound good, the EVO’s have taken that curtain away and revealed details I hadn’t heard before, this is being done without any harshness or sibilance. Voices sound real and in the room with you. A poor recording sound poor, a fantastic recording sounds fantastic. I can now also hear the difference between my iFi Micro iDSD and my valve headphone amp, I couldn’t with the ER2XR’sThese aren’t the brightest sounding IEM’s, I have other IEM’s that are much brighter in sound, but that’s what I like about the EVO the sound is just correct, no emphasis on bass, mid or treble. You can listen for hours without fatigue. Other headphones I have are just not as easy to listen to, they might dig up more treble or bass but it gets tiring after a while. The construction of these are first class, It feels like if you drop them the floor would break not the EVO’s, lots of people are not impressed with the thin cable, I don’t have a problem with it. The cable alone adds a reasonable cost and the cable is a Linum BaX T2. Made in Denmark, it’s a quality cable. I can’t understand why people would think that Etymotic would pick a poor quality one. It is very thin but also very strong.I can’t honestly think that I am going to find better sound, I love the Etymotic sound anyway, but these have brought that sound to a whole new level.Conclusion. Awesome!!I didn’t buy these from Amazon, but I thought my review might be helpful.

Certainly worth a listen.
If you don't mind the intrusion into your ear canal these perform on all fronts. Smooth articulate sound and great noise exclusion. I would thoroughly recommend them. Needless to say you need a good DAP to extract the performance.!
