Very Solid
I needed a padlock to secure an industrial unit and decided on this one. I have no experience of padlocks as such.First impressions are good. The padlock is heavy and very solid feeling. The mechanism is pleasing to use and overall I feel confident using this lock to secure my unit. The lock is rated 9 out of 10 on a scale of how secure it is meant to be. I've also seen it stated as a 5/5 on a different scale. One thing to consider is that out of the box it is set as 'key retaining'. I didn't even know such a phrase existed until I looked into it. It means that to lock and unlock, the key must be held in the lock. So you can't unlock, remove the key and then squeeze it locked again, the key must go back in first. The problem I had at first was that the hoop this goes through is surrounded by a metal enclosure on my unit's steel door. There is limited space and therefore with the key in the lock it was quite tricky to put the padlock on and take off. This is made worse by the closed shackle design. A quick look on Youtube and I found that this 83 series of Abus locks can be set to either be key retaining or not. So 2 minutes later I'd set it up to be not key retaining and I now have no problem using it. Note to Abus to perhaps add instructions to their boxes?Last of all this padlock is supposedly made with rust-proof materials and I will add to this review in the future when it's had plenty of rain on it.

Top Quality
Just took delivery this afternoon. Top quality padlock. Beautifully machined and treated. Most secure well built padlock I have ever held. Silky smooth action. You can just tell this is going to last a long, long time. It gives me a lot of confidence it will protect. If someone wants to get into what you're securing, you get the feeling it will be from a weaker link in your security set up than compromising the integrity of this fine padlock . Got a really good deal from Amazon Warehouse at just over £27. RRP £70

Padlock key issue
These are very good padlocks, and provide, in my view, a high level of security, certainly against the opportunist type of thief. Someone armed with an angle grinder or pneumatic bolt cutters might be able to overcome them, but it would take time.I bought two of these padlocks at about the same time. I found that opening them meant that the key could not be removed from them without relocking them. Looking on line, I discovered that it had been made possible by Abus to change this by taking the guts out of the padlock body, and removing a tiny brass piece from the top of the mechanism.. I did this with one of my padlocks, and it solved the problem. However, when I did the same thing with the other one, it didn’t work. The key would still not come out of the padlock until I locked it again. It’s a minor problem, but irritating. I contacted Abus by e-mail asking for advice. I got a reply saying that they would respond to my query within a day or so.. That was more than a month ago, and i’m still waiting. It is for this reason - poor customer support- that I have downgraded my rating to 4 stars.

Strong high security rated lock, worth the investment.
Has been on my super strong 'beast sheds' shed for a month or 2 now, very strong, no issues with key opening or closing, as long as you're not heavy handed with the key/key mechanism in locking and unlocking and you maintain the lock with wd40 or equivalent then I don't see any issues arising, it'll happily sit there doing the job its meant to do.

Durable lock
Very sturdy and well made. Seems to be weather resistant after a month of use in British weather. Nice weight to it.

Solid lock. I'm using two to secure my garage ...
Solid lock. I'm using two to secure my garage, after a years use the lock mechanism is still smooth, a little rust here and there but nothing preventing the lock from working. Pricey, but worth it for the peace of mind

Solid
I bought 2 of these locks to secure a shipping container. Someone tried to break in over the weekend and the lock has taken and absolute pounding and neither has budged. Ordering 2 more immediately to replace them as I don't want to risk them being weakened if they try again.People thought I was stupid for spending so much on locks but they've saved me a lot more money and a huge headache.
